So, how was YOUR earthquake?

That's the question our nieces asked when they called us a few minutes ago. 'Our' earthquake was small by some standards, but the biggest I've experienced. Until this evening, the earthquakes I'd been through in Vermont were much bigger than any I'd felt in CA since we moved here 18 months ago. This one happened a little after 8:00 pm, and registered 5.6. The epicenter was in or near Alum Rock, which is about 12.5 miles from our house.

It sounded as if someone were dumping a truckload of rock on our roof. Luckily we didn't have any damage. The animals were a bit freaked out - as was I - but we're all fine now.

So, how was YOUR earthquake?

Up in the mountains, it was a good ride! Doors were swinging in the house and a good solid rumbling underfoot. Dog had started to moan and groan a little bit beforehand, so we now have our barometer...

Hi Rachel! So glad to hear you guys are ok. I'm up at the top of the Calaveras fault, so I got a good jolt as well! I was in the JoAnn's waiting for my turn to spend all my money. ha ha Knew it was a big one because all the mobile networks went busy. Was trying to call my boy at his dad's in SF. Got a bit shook up this afternoon as well, there was a 3.0 up at this end of the fault at about 1pm. Busy day!!!

I didn't even feel or hear it (headphones on and moving around), but Jane did. It must have been pretty remarkable for you!

We were on the road coming home from Monterey to Redwood City and didn't feel a thing.
First earthquake I felt upon moving to CA was a 4.3 in the middle of the night in Aptos (near Santa Cruz); I woke up thinking the boat was rocking--waitta minute, we're not in a boat! "Mmmm," my sweetie mumbled, a CA native, "four point five or so" not quite waking up all the way.
I'm a Franklin reading fan, wandered over to say hello, glad to find you in the neighborhood as blogophere neighborhoods go.

Not a native, but pretty much of one...and that was nuttin' honey. Of course, the last few I have felt since the '89 one I have been on the 2d floor of a hosp which is built to roll with the punches, so this was nuttin'.
Glad to find your non-blog - coming over from the Panopticon - we are semi-neighbors I believe ...

Ah, the price of living in unsteady CA is only having the books another quarter inch off the shelves to their doom.

Was hours before I found the cat.
Until the next one: Ciao, Darling
